The Houston Police Department has reported the discovery of the lifeless body of 21-year-old Idania Campos in the trunk of her Honda Civic. The college student had been reported missing on Tuesday, Nov. 28, after she failed to attend school at Houston Community College.
According to authorities, Campos' ex-boyfriend, 19-year-old Ariel Cruz, played a seemingly cooperative role in the search for the missing woman. However, the situation took a horrifying twist when a family member gained access to Campos' vehicle and discovered her lifeless body at 5:40 p.m. Police on the scene noted that Campos had suffered trauma to her face and was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a chilling development, Cruz later confessed to the murder, revealing a disturbing motive. According to court documents obtained by KTRK, Cruz admitted to shooting Campos and subsequently placing her body in the trunk of the car. His confession cited the motive as Campos having "broken up with him in the past."
Houston Police Department's Lt. Larry Crowson expressed the devastating impact of the discovery on Campos' family, stating, "It’s very devastating for the family. They discovered the body in the trunk. It’s a very devastating thing for them."
Ariel Cruz has been officially charged with murder, as announced in a police news release on Nov. 29. The community is left in shock and mourning over the loss of a young life, and the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Campos' death continues.
As the legal proceedings unfold, the community grapples with the unsettling reality of domestic violence, emphasizing the importance of awareness and support for those facing abusive relationships.
