The Taste of Authenticity

Like many people in the U.S., I love Mexican food - especially if it’s an authentic Mexican restaurant, not to be confused with many Tex-Mex locations. My favorite place for Mexican food is San Jose’s Original Mexican Restaurant at 4315 S. Hwy 27 Suite A1 in Clermont, Florida 34711.

San Jose's Story

San Jose's is a family-owned and operated restaurant. According to their website, San Jose’s first location opened in 2000 in Orlando, Florida by five brothers who learned how to cook with their grandmother. They make their dishes from scratch and their prices are affordable. As of today, they have four restaurants: Altamonte Springs, Clermont, Leesburg, and Ocoee.

Like Visiting Mexico

I have not been to Mexico, but my friend says that San Jose’s decoration is reminiscent of her childhood. It reminds her of the village where she grew up in Mexico. The ambiance is appropriate for the type of restaurant it is, as well as the music.

The service is great. San Jose's Restaurant always exceeds our expectations in food quality and service. The staff is bilingual and friendly. And their dishes always come out complete, clean dishes, and appealing to the eye.

We have eaten in San Jose’s Clermont location since its opening. I must admit they never fail. Their food is delicious and always on point. Their guacamole, salsa, and chorizo dip are homemade and always fresh. No soggy chips here, they are always crispy and not salty.

What to Eat?

On their appetizer menu, I prefer their taquitos. They are amazingly delicious. You can choose from either beef, shredded chicken, or mashed casa fries. I have not tried the mashed casa fries, but I’m sure they are as good as the beef and chicken taquitos. They serve these with guacamole and sour cream.

What about their entrée? Oh my, just so much to choose from. I have not tried them all but can assure you that everyone I have tried is delicious - chilaquiles, chimichanga, flautas (the translation to English is flute), fajitas, enchiladas, and steak - just scrumptious! I do have a favorite and that is the chilaquiles, which are corn chips topped with chicken, queso fresco, and covered in either tomato sauce or their salsa verde (green sauce). It comes with a serving of beans and a side salad too. My understanding is this recipe is one of the main dishes from the small villages of Mexico. Their servings are quite large, therefore, I can never order a dessert because I feel stuffed after eating.

Is it Affordable?

San Jose’s Original Mexican Restaurant prices are about the same as other local restaurants. Frankly, for their portions, the prices are low. But don’t take my word for it. Try it for yourself. Visit the San Jose’s Original Mexican Restaurant website for the nearest location. So, if you are ready to party, visit them for their Cinco de Mayo celebration specials. You can also order through Uber Eats and they do catering too.
