Did Cam Newton’s 5 day absence play a role in Mac Jones winning QB1 spot

New England Patriots fans were a little surprised Monday August 23, when news hit that Cam Newton had to stay away from the team because he had violated the NFL travel and testing rules. That left Mac Jones available to take over QB1 reps for four straight practices, including the first practice with the New York Giants, and Mac Jones took advantage of that opportunity and carved up the Giants starting defense. That has to have some wondering, did Cam Newton’s five day absence play a role in Mac Jones winning the QB1 spot?
