Mac Jones Struggles In Cam Newton’s Absence

Cam Newton having to miss three days of practice wasn’t ideal news for the New England Patriots, but it did open up the door for rookie quarterback Mac Jones to make a name for himself and take some significant snaps with the starters. Unfortunately the reports coming out of practice haven’t sounded great for Jones. Michael Giradri tweeted: Mac Jones was very inconsistent today. Maybe the most uneven we’ve seen him look all camp. Lot of pass protection issues as well. Did close practice strongly, with well-placed throws to Kendrick Bourne (sweet one-handed catch) and Gunner., and Matt Dollof tweeted: Mac Jones was 17-of-31 in 11-on-11 drills, including two throwaways and two drops. Also "sacked" twice. Finished a late two-minute drill with a "touchdown" to Gunner Olszewski. Up-and-down day in what could be a big audition to wrest the starting job from Cam Newton. Obviously not the ideal start, but Mac still has two more practices as the Patriots QB1
