Though the opening of their new location at The Avenue West Cobb is still a few months away, that's not stopping the crew of StretchLab from offering trial services and building a customer base.

Under a tent on the lawn at The Avenue West Cobb, the StetchLab team of professional flexologists has been offering free stretching demonstrations and also booking appointments for some of their standard services. Just across the parking lot, their future home is undergoing renovations to house the local outlet of this California-based, international health and wellness company.

The tent has been home base on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Visitors to the shopping center stop by to check out the curious activity, while returning clients arrive for pre-booked stretching services. The walk-up trial is a 15-minute introduction to StretchLab's services. Participants take their places on a stretching table and the flexologists perform a full-body or focused stretching routine. While individuals choose stretching for a number of individualized reasons, many are seeking to improve sports performance, increase flexibility and range of motion, and reduce muscle and joint pain.

We couldn't pass on the offer for a trial, so both our DeanLand and Gigi's Best team signed up for the 15-minute demo. After filling out a brief form and signing a mandatory release, we briefed our flexologists on our muscle, joint and mobility issues. From there, our flexologists went to work, always asking about our comfort and keeping us engaged in the interactive proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation stretching techniques.

Over the next 15 minutes, we alternately enjoyed and endured the gentle stretching routines, about 10 in all covering both sides of our upper and lower extremities and our shoulder and neck areas. Throughout, the flexologists communicated with us to assure our comfort while maximizing the benefits of the stretches. And, along the way, they offered tips and demonstrations for home routines we could do to enhance the benefits from the session.

Stretch Lab franchise owner J.J. Johnson said his own experiences led him to check out the company's services, then to open an outlet.Photo byDeanLand / OurTravelCafe.com

Local franchise owner J.J. Johnson said it was his own experience of stiffly and painfully getting up from his couch that inspired his decision to open the franchise location. After trying the company's services on a business trip to Houston, he then traveled to the California headquarters for a full briefing. Now he's opening the location at The Avenue in hopes of helping others get physical relief through stretching. The current build-out schedule is for the new space to be ready for occupancy and a grand opening in July.

Until then, the StretchLab team continues doing demonstrations at The Avenue West Cobb and other pop-up locations. They've also booked group sessions for area businesses, traveling to business locations to deliver special event services.
