15 Lighthouses from Our Summertime Circle Tour Around Lake Michigan and Beyond

We did a 1,200 mile, 7 day circle tour-plus around Lake Michigan, beginning and ending in Chicago. We ventured away from Lake Michigan to visit Mackinac Island on Lake Huron, then headed further into the UP for a kayaking trip at Pictured Rocks National Seashore. We mapped out some stops in advance, including a few lighthouses. Then, the history, stories and scenic settings of the lighthouses took control. We found ourselves searching Google and blog sites, then taking short detours to these iconic structures while exploring some historic small towns in the process. We photographed and video-captured 15 lighthouses on Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. We skipped many others due to our route, preplanned activities and time limitations. Oh, well, now we have reason for another trip. In this 4-minute video, we share some of our favorite photos and scenes, with many more left out to keep this version short.
