Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota (Blue Cross) has expanded its statewide High Value Network for Medicare Advantage to include all locations of Hennepin Healthcare, the company announced today.
This addition is part of a new three-year agreement between the two organizations.
With the inclusion of Hennepin Healthcare’s hospital, clinics, and specialty centers, Blue Cross now provides its Medicare Advantage members access to 98 percent of doctors in Minnesota.
Major Collaboration Broadens Access to Care
The expansion allows Blue Cross Medicare Advantage members increased access to the facilities and providers within the Hennepin Healthcare system.
Hennepin Healthcare operates a 484-bed hospital, an outpatient Clinic & Specialty Center, and a Level 1 Adult and Pediatric Trauma center in Minneapolis. Its campus includes Minnesota’s largest emergency department.
Beyond its Minneapolis campus, Hennepin Healthcare’s integrated network runs neighborhood clinics across Hennepin County and the Twin Cities metro.
Blue Cross High Value Network Now Includes All Major Systems
With this addition, the Blue Cross High Value Network for Medicare Advantage now provides access to care from all the major health systems across the Twin Cities area.
This includes Allina Health, Children’s Hospitals and Clinics, Entira Family Clinics, M Health Fairview, North Memorial Health, Ridgeview Clinics, St. Croix Regional Medical Center, University of Minnesota Physicians and more.
Medicare Advantage Enrollment Reaches New Heights
The expansion comes as an increasing number of Minnesotans enroll in Medicare Advantage plans over traditional Medicare.
According to December 2022 data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Blue Cross is the number one Medicare Advantage provider chosen in the state. Options are now available in all 87 Minnesota counties.
Blue Cross Medicare Advantage Plans Receive High Ratings
Blue Cross offers some of the nation’s top-rated Medicare Advantage plans, earning 4.5 out of 5 stars from CMS for 2024. The plans emphasize broad provider choice to allow enrollees access to high-quality care.
