In this photographer's opinion, this is the best car show in the country

Classic Cars at Caffeine and OctaneImage by Darryl Brooks

As a photographer, I have visited and shot automobile shows all over the country. But none of the ones I have seen rival Caffeine and Octane at Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody, Georgia.

The show begins at 8 am, rain or shine, and runs until 11 am, the first Sunday of every month. The odd hours are due to the location at a busy suburban shopping mall. This show takes up at least 1/3 of the total parking space, and spectators eat up most of the rest.

Caffeine and Octane is family (and dog) friendly and free to attend as a spectator.

The show is a mish-mash of hundreds of cars of all types, not just antiques. Major sections are devoted to Porsches and Exotic cars, but vehicles of a brand or type tend to flock together even in the main lot. In addition, there are sections devoted to Volkswagens, muscle cars, customs, antiques, and everything in between.

There are also food and beverage vendors as well as port-a-potties. Since the event is free to attend, I always try to buy something from the Caffeine and Octane booth to support the show.

The best access is off Hammond Drive, directly into the parking deck. You can then exit the other side of the deck straight into the first row of automobiles.

Pro Tip: Plan on staying beyond the closing time. As much fun as walking among all these cars is, watching them all crank up and drive out of the lot is an experience in itself.
