Katie Couric—the incredible journalist—has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Exhibiting an enormous amount of strength, the woman has used the situation to affect positive change.
Thankfully, Couric's doctor has ensured her that her condition is highly treatable. Still, she shudders to think about what might have happened had she skipped her appointment.

It looks like we can expect a swift and thorough recovery from Couric, but this is certainly a wake-up call for women to make sure they get their annual mammograms—the cancer was caught in time and the scenario is as good as bad can get. Couric remains optimistic about the future and is grateful that she did not wait any longer.
That being said, it is extremely important to practice preventative care whenever possible, and Katie Couric is an example of this—it's likely in your best interest to make sure you don't skip too many appointments in a row. Doing so will almost certainly increase your peace of mind while allowing you to maintain your health.
