There are so many diets on the market right now, and a lot of them are actually awful for you, because they tend to make false promises, and people usually put on the weight they’ve lost immediately after they finish following their diet plan. Fortunately, paleo is a quite nutritious, and it boasts a lot of health benefits. It’s also a diet that will help you sustain a healthy weight and metabolism for a long time to come. It is high in protein and fat.

WHAT IS A PALEO DIET?

This diet is thought to resemble what hunter-gatherers ate thousands of years ago. Several studies show that the paleo meal plan can actually lead to weight loss and can provide plenty of other major health improvements.

WHAT SHOULD YOU EAT ON A PALEO DIET?

You may wonder what a paleo meal plan actually consists of. Thankfully, there are a myriad of ways to follow this diet: Some people ate a lot of animal proteins while others stuck to a high-carb meal plan consisting of lots of plants. You’ll want to eat meat, fish, vegetables, eggs, fruits, nuts, seeds, herbs, spices, and healthy fats and oils. These are general guidelines, so feel free to change the ingredients around to suit your preferences.

WHAT SHOULD YOU AVOID ON A PALEO DIET?

When you’re following a paleo diet, there are certain foods that you are encouraged to avoid. These include sugar, grains, legumes, vegetable oils, dairy, trans fats, artificial sweeteners, and highly processed foods. Again, these are simply general guidelines, so it’s important to listen to your body and adapt your meal plan accordingly.

1. BUY ORGANIC FOOD (MOST OF THE TIME)

It’s okay if you don’t buy everything organic, especially if you’re on a budget. You’ll want to take a look at the dirty dozen. It’s best to prioritize exactly what needs to be organic. You can be more frugal with the rest of your produce.

2. BUY IN BULK

You can get a bunch of dried fruits and nuts for a much better price if you buy in bulk. Why not opt for cheaper products that are basically the same as the more expensive ones?

3. BUY PRODUCE THAT’S IN SEASON

You’ll get the freshest produce if you purchase it in season. It also tastes incredible! It’s important to buy items that are local whenever you can.

4. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF DEALS

If you have any coupons, you’ll want to use them. You’ll also want to make sure you utilize any gift cards, and keep your eyes peeled for all the in-store deals you can find.

5. GO TO THE FARMER’S MARKET WHENEVER YOU CAN

When you go to the farmer’s market, you can access the most local produce, and you don’t have to be concerned about whether or not it’s organic. The fruits and vegetables are also cheaper, on average, than they are at most grocery stores, and the atmosphere is a lot of fun: Sometimes you’ll run into people busking contentedly, while the farmers are almost always happy to share their story with you and tell you everything you’d ever want to know about their produce!

6. OPT FOR LEAN CUTS OF MEAT

You don’t have to get the most expensive meat that’s available. Of course, you can choose to purchase the leaner cuts of meat which also contain more fat. If you’re vegan or vegetarian, you can also opt for tofu or beans instead.

7. FROZEN VEGGIES ARE OKAY!!

Frozen fruits and vegetables are actually okay. Believe it or not, they have just as many nutrients as fresh ones.

8. SKIP PRE-PREPARED MEALS

When you’re going on a paleo diet, or simply opting to eat healthier, it’s important to skip processed and pre-packaged meals. If you have a hectic schedule, you might want to take a day or two to prepare food for the entire week.

9. TRY MEAL PLANNING

The weekends are a wonderful opportunity to cook a huge stir-fry or that spaghetti Bolognese that will last you for the whole week. It will save you so much time. Plus, you will eat food that is a lot better for you as a result!

10. MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR INGREDIENTS

Sometimes, all you need is a few simple ingredients, such as a beef and broccoli, for a delicious meal. The paleo diet is generally very high in protein and fat, so it’s important to emphasize those nutrients.

CAN YOU EAT GRAINS ON A PALEO DIET?

Most people avoid grains on a paleo diet because they usually contain common allergens such as gluten. If weight loss is your goal, this is also an excellent strategy, because reducing carbs automatically lowers your appetite, which then naturally leads to the shedding of unwanted fat. If you avoid grains, you don’t ever have to count calories during this process.

A note about weight loss: Some people struggle to lose weight more intensely than others. If you are working out regularly and following a healthy diet, and you still can’t shed those extra pounds, this might be because you have hypothyroidism, which is a condition that can cause weight gain no matter what you do. Thankfully, it is often curable, but you’ll want to visit your primary care provider if you’re concerned about this issue. They can help you get to the bottom of the problem and prescribe medication if necessary, so that you can remedy this ailment and, more often than not, achieve your fitness goals.

The paleo diet offers so many benefits, which include lower blood pressure, healthy blood sugar levels, improved insulin sensitivity, excellent weight management, and improved cholesterol balance. It also improves satiety and lowers all-cause mortality. This is a great meal plan to follow that will only improve your health. If you want to learn more about the long-term or short-term effects of this diet, you’ll want to schedule a session with a nutritionist or healthcare provider: They can provide you with the best information about what will be ideal for you personally.

Following the paleo diet is a great way to lose weight and gain muscle. You can even adapt it to a vegan or vegetarian meal plan if necessary, and it tastes delicious.
