According to a new poll released this week from YouGov with The Economist, the race for president in 2024 has tightened even further between former President Donald Trump and sitting President Joe Biden, were Trump to win the Republican primary.
Now, the already close race appears to be evenly split between the two candidates in a hypothetical matchup, with the two dividing up cleanly in the poll.
Trump and Biden Tied in Latest Poll
According to the latest YouGov poll, President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are tied at 39%, with the rest of the results going to adults who are unsure who they would vote for, those who would vote for a third-party candidate, or those who would not vote if the two had a rematch of the 2020 election that saw Biden emerge victorious.
The poll shows an even tighter race than found in their poll from April 15th to the 18th, which found Trump to be beating Biden 41% to 37%.
The latest poll showed Biden making gains in almost every demographic of voters except for those that consider themselves to have a conservative ideology. Interestingly, in that demographic, both Trump and Biden saw losses, with the president going from 13% support among conservatives to 8% and Trump going from 80% to 78% as some voters moved to support other candidates instead of the two presumptive favorites.
The poll, which was conducted by YouGov and The Economist, can be seen in its entirety here. The poll was conducted from May 27th to the 31st and surveyed 1,500 U.S. adults.
