Those in and around Hollywood are mourning the loss of an iconic figure this week after news broke that Ed Winter, the Los Angeles County Coroner who handled some of the biggest death investigations of celebrities in the area, including the stunning death of pop star Michael Jackson, has died at the age of 73.
Ed Winter's Death:
Winter reportedly died inside his home in the Los Angeles area last Friday, according to TMZ. He reportedly died of natural causes but no further details were provided at this time.
Winter's Career: Winter's career as the "coroner to the stars" spanned nearly two decades, during which he oversaw some of the most high-profile cases and death investigations in Hollywood, including music legends Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston, as well as the tragic death of actor Paul Walker.
In handling Jackson's death, Winter quickly realized that there were multiple injection points on the pop star's body. He also noticed the disappearance of Jackson's doctor, Dr. Conrad Murray, shortly after Jackson was pronounced dead. Winter ended up signing Jackson's death certificate instead of Murray, who would have been responsible for signing off.
He was also given the infamous Phil Spector- Lana Clarkson case early on in his career in Hollywood, where Spector was eventually convicted of murdering her in a very high-profile case.
Winter was known around Hollywood, for better or for worse, with the iconic Dionne Warwick, upon being introduced to the longtime coroner shortly after Houston's death, saying "I know who Ed Winter is," per TMZ.
We send our condolences to Ed Winter's family and loved ones.
