This week, a traffic stop led to the arrest of three men, marking the third arrest this year for one of them. The arrest then led to a search of one of the men’s home, resulting in the discovery of over 50 firearms, suspected illegal substances, and more.
According to a Coffee County Drug Unit report, on November 27, a detective was notified by Coffee County Patrol that a man on bond, 27-year-old Walter Jaden Bryan, had been arrested during a traffic stop, along with 30-year-old Jeremy Hersey and 30-year-old Bradley Barton.
The report states that the men were in possession of firearms, unlawful suppressors, and a suspected methamphetamine smoking pipe during the stop.
Bryan, according to the detective, had a fourth amendment waiver from his previous bond (possession of methamphetamine), leading to a search of Bryan’s home on Clough Blvd. in Douglas.
During the search, investigators reportedly discovered quantities of suspected methamphetamine, suspected Hydrocodone, suspected Oxycodone, and over 50 firearms. Additionally, two pieces of heavy-duty machinery—an excavator and a dump trailer—were recovered from the property.
Per court documents, Barton was sentenced to thirty years in 2021 after pleading guilty to possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute. His sentence included spending the first five years in confinement, followed by probation. GDC documents show that Barton was booked by the GDC in May 2021 and released in November 2022.
Bryan, according to documents filed in the Superior Court of Coffee County, has been charged three times prior to his recent offense. In March, he was indicted on one count of burglary in the second degree and theft by taking in one case, and in November, an accusation was filed on one count of possession of methamphetamine.
The Coffee County Jail roster shows the men booked on the following charges:
- Barton: possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, hunting with unlawful weapon, killing deer at night and possession of methamphetamine
- Hersey: possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, hunting with unlawful weapon, killing deer at night and possession of methamphetamine
- Bryan: hunting with unlawful weapon, killing deer at night, no hunting license (2x), hunting without big game license (2x), reporting and recording requirements for game animals and birds (2x), possession of methamphetamine (2x), possession of hydrocodone, possession of a schedule II controlled substance, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies (2x), and possession of a sawed off shotgun
As of Thursday, all three men remain in custody.
