A Douglas man is in custody after local drug investigators with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office reportedly found him flushing suspected drugs down a toilet. The suspect, 34-year-old Irwin Wright, was just released from a Georgia prison last year after spending a year incarcerated on a similar charged .

A warrant for Wright's arrest was served by detectives on May 15 at a home on First Avenue South in Douglas, according to a preliminary report from the Coffee County Drug Unit. The report says when detectives arrived at the location, Wright was located in a bathroom inside the home, flushing suspected marijuana and suspected cocaine down a toilet.

The report also states that detectives discovered an additional quantity of suspected cocaine and a suspected Oxycodone tablet next to Wright in the bathroom. In the same room, a digital scale was also discovered lying on the floor.

Wright was transported to the Coffee County Jail and booked on five felony charges, including possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute, possession of marijuana less than 1 oz., possession of a controlled substance: Oxycodone, and two counts of tampering with evidence.

Documents filed in the Superior Court of Coffee County and the Georgia Department of Corrections website show that Wright has been charged with similar charges dating back to 2008. In May 2021, law enforcement arrested Wright for possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana. He pleaded guilty to the cocaine possession charge later that year, and as a result, the additional offense was dismissed.

In October 2021, a superior court judge sentenced Wright to two years of confinement in October 2021. However, he was released from Rogers State Prison on November 3, 2022, and was on parole at the time of his most recent arrest.

The GDC website also lists prior convictions for possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, crossing guard lines in Georgia with drugs, possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute (2x), possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, and possession of cocaine.

As of Thursday morning, Wright had not received bond and remained in custody at the Coffee County Jail.
