Department of Wonder is opening a 10,000 square foot location in Sugar Land, Texas. The site will be in Sugar Land Town Square.

It’s an ambitious attempt for the startup. The company hopes to provide an immersive cinematic experience. Which allows the audience to be the main characters.

Department of Wonder has an esteemed leadership team. A team filled with storytellers, designers, producers, and technologists. The concept allows guests to puzzle-solve while immersed in an interactive theater.

Brandon Oldenburg is a part of the leadership team. He is an Academy Award-winning film director known for “The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore.”

The experience allows guests to wield a lantern while stories unravel around them. Guests will solve puzzles and meet various colorful characters in a fantastical universe.

Department of Wonder hopes to blur the line between physical and digital worlds. They want guests to be captivated as they embark on a magical journey.

The goal of the state-of-the-are entertainment experience is to “...dazzle, entertain, and inspire guests of all ages.” Stated Joe Zimmerman, the Sugar Land Mayor.

The opening is expected in early 2022. Current expectations for the start coincide with planned upgrades to Sugar Land Town Square.

The hope is to attract more guests to the square from the greater Houston Metropolitan area.
