NEW ORLEANS, LA – The Loyola University New Orleans athletics department announced the addition of a new indoor golf simulator for men’s and women’s golf teams. The ES Tour Plus by Ernest Sports, fully funded by Wolf Pack athletics donors, provides the on-campus and indoor practice space located in the Danna Center. This facility enables Wolf Pack golfers to practice no matter the time and the weather.
"We were looking to provide a major technology upgrade to promote player development within our golf program and our donors who wish to remain anonymous were able to make that possible for years to come," said Garrett Lacour as the Senior Alumni Engagement Officer.
The indoor golf simulator serves primarily as a launch monitor. It provides ball and club data and also shows the option to play real courses with TGC software. Golfers can hit off a golf hitting mat onto the wall-sized screen displayed by the projector. Then, the screen will display classic golf course scenery, with the launch monitor tracking the golf ball off the club face. It also provides the specific numbers of carry and total distance, club path, angle of attack, speed of both ball and club, and also launch and spin.
"We are very fortunate to have access to several practice facilities in the city, but having a place to practice a few steps from the residence halls is a wonderful addition. That convenience coupled with the data that the launch monitor can give you, makes for a pretty special area for our players," Drew Goff, Wolf Pack men’s and women’s golf coach, said.
"The addition of the SIM room on campus allowed our team and myself the opportunity to continually work and get better at our sport. It gave us the chance to get extra practice at night and on rainy days when those are times we can't usually practice,” Chase Venn, one of Loyola Wolf Pack golfers, added.
