Rutledge, Georgia, is just an hour's drive from Atlanta and located a few minutes from the charming and picturesque town of Madison. The town slogan is "Small but special", and while this postage stamp of a town is easy to overlook, a closer inspection will show you just how special it is for residents and visitors alike. It's more than just the old-fashioned playground at the center of town, the summer concert series that takes place at the gazebo, and the beauty of the state park. Rutledge has so much to offer the outdoor adventurer. Just make sure to include the Over Yonder Outpost in your adventure plans.

Over Yonder Outpost (OYO) is owned by locals Jen Buzbee and Sara Ghann. Located at 141 Fairplay Street in Rutledge, OYO is also small but special. New to town, it brings local crafts and goods to the area as well as plenty of outdoor adventure options.

Located directly beside The Caboose, a local dining staple, Over Yonder Outpost stocks local area postcards, area shirts, camp accessories, books by local authors, handmade jewelry, local honey, boiled peanuts, handmade soaps, handmade body scrubs, handmade lotions, beef jerky, toys, and more. Everything in the store is either handmade by a local artisan or supplied by a fair-trade company, according to Buzbee, making it an eco-friendly stop for all of your outdoor needs.

Most notably for outdoor enthusiasts, OYO offers rentals that are perfect for outdoor adventures and even family gatherings. Here are the rentals available, as well as the rates:

Over Yonder Outpost has plenty to offer visitors while supporting local craftspersons, authors, artisans, and even area students. OYO carries something for every member of the family--even the family dog. It's a proud supporter of the Skytastic line of dog toys, an unofficial business by special needs students at Morgan County High School. These toys are made out of community-donated tennis balls and t-shirts, making it an eco-friendly choice for your pup. Sales of these toys go to support the special needs students and their programs. My pup gave his toy two paws up!

Ele & Honey Co. was another standout artisan in the shop. These products immediately caught my attention. The handcrafted and natural soaps, lotions, hand-poured soy candles, and body scrubs infused the shop with a welcome and relaxing fragrance. Two of my favorite soaps were Lemon & Poppyseed and Patchouli & Lavender.

With Hard Labor Creek State Park a short drive away, OYO offers everything you need for a fun family getaway. Enjoy yard games, drop off your laundry, take advantage of fishing and paddle boarding at the lake, and go for a fun family bike ride. Don't forget to grab some road trip snacks as you leave. They're open Wednesday through Sunday from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Call (706)318-3318 or email overyonderoutpost@gmail.com to book your next adventure!
