Twelve-year-old Jasmine Richardson was dating a 23-year-old. She walks free today.
Jasmine Richardson was in love with a werewolf. Or so she thought. And for that love, she murdered her family in cold blood.
The Richardson family, Marc, Debra, Jasmine, and her 8-year-old brother, Tyler Jacob, lived in Medicine Hat, Alberta. The teen believed she was in love with her boyfriend, 23-year-old Jeremey Steinke, who had told her he was a 300-year-old werewolf. He even went as far as to wear a vial of blood on a chain around his neck.
Twelve-year-old Jasmine would do anything to be with her “werewolf” boyfriend and when her parents forbade her from seeing him, she hatched the plan to get rid of them. The murders were premeditated, and the couple planned to run away together after the horrific deed was done.
Jasmine had told her friends what she was planning on doing but didn't believe her. No one went to report her to the police. She was only 12; they didn't think she could be capable of something so heinous.
Although she was the youngest of the two, she was the mastermind behind the plot. This was evident by their electronic correspondence to each other prior to the murders.
In a message to him on social media, Jasmine wrote, “I have this plan. It begins with me killing them and ends with me living with you.”
An online post written by Steinke read:
They shall pay for their insulince [sic]. Finally there shall be silence. Their blood shall be payment!
On the 23rd of August 2006, a young friend of Tyler’s came over to hang out. As he peered through the windows of the Richardson’s home, he was horrified by what he saw: the lifeless bodies of the murder victims.
Jasmine and her boyfriend had killed her 8-year-old brother. Little Tyler was found surrounded by his beloved toys. Steinke himself killed Jasmine’s parents, Marc, 42, and Debra, 48, in the basement of their home.
By the time the police arrived, the lovers were already on the run. Authorities were concerned that Jasmine herself had been kidnapped during the attack, as she was nowhere to be found. They never suspected that she was in fact the killer they were looking for.
Authorities began looking for the couple. Jasmine and Jeremy were found the very next day, 81 miles away from the crime scene, in Leader, Saskatchewan. They were immediately arrested.
In 2007 Jasmine Richardson was found guilty of the murder of both of her parents and her younger brother. Because she was a minor, she was sentenced to Canada’s maximum of 10 years in jail.
The following year, Steinke was convicted of his part in the killings. He was also found guilty of all three murders and was given three concurrent life sentences.
In 2016, ten years after she was convicted of killing her own family, Jasmine Richardson was released.
She has never apologized for the crimes she committed. She now lives under a different name.
