Richmond, Texas Woman accused of shooting her husband

RICHMOND, TX (Covering Katy) - A man from Richmond is recovering from a gunshot wound and the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office says his wife admits pulling the trigger.

"Adonia Martinez shot her husband, Larry Martinez, 31, as he was leaving the residence in their vehicle after a dispute between both parties," said a Sheriff's Office statement said.

The incident happened on March 10, 2022, shortly before 7 a.m.

She has been charged with aggravated assault family violence. In Texas, an aggravated assault involving family violence can be considered a first degree felony with punishments that include up to life in prison.

"Unfortunately, family violence continues to plague all our communities and affects people from all walks of life," said Sheriff Eric Fagan. "Our office works diligently to curb the problem of domestic violence by investigating and preparing cases such as this."

It happed in the 6600 block of Plum Springs Lane in Richmond which is in a neighborhood between FM 2218 and Minonite Road.

"The suspect confessed to shooting the victim and was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault family violence."

At the time of publication, Adonia Martinez had not posted bond and remained at the county jail.

Richmond is the county seat of Fort Bend County, Texas. It's located within the Houston metropolitan area. As of the 2019 U.S. census, the city population was 12,578. It is one of the most ethnically diverse counties in the United States.

Named after Richmond, England, the it is one of 19 cities first incorporated by the short-lived Republic of Texas, in 1837.
