New Members Sought for West Hartford Community Fund Advisory Committee

Connecticut by the Numbers

The West Hartford Community Fund was established in 2019 by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, to support the community in taking ownership around the needs in West Hartford and encourage broad and inclusive civic engagement. The Hartford Foundation established the fund and The Advisory Committee manages the decision making, grant funding, and operations decisions.

Last year the West Hartford Advisory Committee established a grantmaking process from the ground up aimed at ensuring the fund would have a meaningful impact for the benefit of town residents.

In 2021, the West Hartford Greater Together Community Fund Advisory Committee awarded seven grants, in amounts ranging from $1,850 to $5,500, to help fund programs or projects that will "improve or enhance the quality of life in West Hartford or otherwise contribute to address a direct need" of the West Hartford Community. A total of $25,000 was awarded to the following organizations:

  • West Hartford Fellowship Housing,
  • West Hartford African American Social and Cultural Organization,
  • Copper Beech Institute,
  • Golden Door: A Center for Immigrants,
  • The Bridge Family Center,
  • The Noah Webster House, and
  • Autism Families Connecticut.

The Committee strives to be inclusive and reflective of all West Hartford residents and is looking forward to adding additional members to serve in this volunteer capacity.

Participation in the Advisory Committee is open to all West Hartford residents age 14 and older, with the exception of elected officials or those currently running for elective office. Previous experience in community organizations or in grant-making is not needed.
