What is Hispanic Heritage Month? Hispanic Heritage Month (HHM) takes place September 15th to October 15th. This is a time to recognize and celebrate the many contributions, diverse cultures, and extensive histories of the American Latinx community.
Boulder County and the area have many Hispanic Heritage events over the next 30 days. We encourage residents to participate in and to celebrate the significant contributions of the Hispanic and Latinx communities in Boulder County. Below you will find several upcoming events for 2023. So, mark your calendars and buy your tickets.
Longmont Museum
The Longmont Museum is featuring several exciting events this year that celebrate Hispanic heritage.
Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead)
The museum is having many events that celebrate the Hispanic heritage of Día de Muertos. The tradition is a time to celebrate the deceased, to keep our loved one’s memories alive. The events and exhibits have been long standing at the museum. This holiday is full of life, reflection, food, family, and fun.
Día de Muertos Exhibits
October 14 to November 5
The Día de Muertos exhibition will be in the Museum’s Swan Atrium. The exhibit features ofrendas (altars) built by community members and the work of local artists. FREE

Day of the Dead Family Celebration

Downtown Longmont at 4th Avenue and Main Street
The Día de Muertos Family Celebration will be in Downtown Longmont. This street festival will include music and dance performances, art and craft activities, cultural education, delicious food, downtown business altars, and the Gigantes Procession. Longmont Museum will provide free shuttle to Downtown. Or you may park in a Downtown parking lot. More information.
Noche de Museo: Celebrating Day of the Dead

The museum is hosting an evening of live performances in celebration of Día de Muertos for all ages, from ancient Aztecan dance to contemporary Chicano Funk. Celebrate Mexico's Day of independence for the month of September by making a Cuarta keychain. This historic item is used during horse riding events in many parts of Mexico for many years and is a staple in Mexican culture. Special workshop with Museo de las Americas to create a Vejigante mask. The Vejigante is a masked creature who both fascinates and frightens young children with his mischievous antics, especially during festivals in Ponce and Loiza in Puerto Rico. This workshop explores Puerto Rico’s vibrant and rhythmic festivals, the mixed history of the Vejigante and the country’s relationship to the United States. Students will create the horned mask of the mysterious and charismatic Vejigante as they listen to the sounds of Bomba music and learn about cultural blending. The event is geared towards 3rd to 5th graders. More information and to register.
