Hispanic Heritage of Florida: Castillo de San Marcos National Monument

The old Spanish fort was built over 350 years ago in America's first European town, St. Augustine, Florida. Castillo de San Marcos is attestation of where Hispanic heritage started within the continental United States. It was built by the Spanish to defend St. Augustine and the Atlantic trade route.
