Howl with the wolves at the award-winning Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center

Colorado Jill

About 30 miles west of Colorado Springs, in the town of Divide, is the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center (CWWC), a facility that recently earned the #7 spot on the USA Today Readers' Choice list for "Best Safari Park."

The animal sanctuary is home to a magnificent pack of wolves, including two critically endangered gray wolves, and several fox species. The facility offers year-round tours and special events to educate and advocate for these beautiful animals.

Full Moon Tour

There are tours and events for all ages, including a monthly "Full Moon" tour that is a howling good time. Reservations are now open for the April 8th tour (check-in at 6:30 p.m.).

The event starts with a seasonal beverage and sweets and then a guided walking tour of the sanctuary. The group will hike up Chinook's Nature Trail to hear the story about CWWC from the center's founder followed by a full moon "group howl" with the wolves.

The tour is approximately two hours, and all participants should wear good walking shoes and bring a flashlight. Advanced registration is required, and tickets are $35 for ages 12 and up and $15 for children ages 8 to 11. No children under eight are allowed on this tour. Reserve your spot here.

Wolves are crucial members of our ecosystem. In November 2020, Colorado voters passed Proposition #114 with a narrow margin of 50.91%. This approved ballot measure allows for the careful reintroduction of gray wolves into Colorado.

Gray wolves once roamed freely in Colorado, but the last one was shot and killed in the 1940s as part of the state’s extermination campaign. Residents of Colorado will again share space with these beautiful animals, and education is key.

To learn more about wolves, conservation efforts, and their reintroduction into Colorado, visit the award-winning Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center (4729 Twin Rocks Road, Divide, Colorado). A real Colorado gem!

Nominees for the "10Best Readers Choice Awards" are submitted by experts, and the top ten are determined by popular vote.
