Colorado's art scene is dynamic and diverse, offering something for everyone, from traditional art enthusiasts to those interested in cutting-edge contemporary pieces. The state has several world-class art museums and numerous small towns with remarkable artistic finds.

One Colorado town recently earned the #5 spot from USA Today for "Best Small Town Art Scene." This honor goes to Manitou Springs.

Manitou Springs is a charming mountain town located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, just a few miles west of Colorado Springs. It is surrounded by stunning natural scenery, including Pikes Peak and Garden of the Gods. With a population of around 5,000, this small town has a big reputation for being fun and quirky with a fabulous art scene.

Manitou Springs is home to a vibrant community of artists, galleries, and creative events that attract worldwide visitors.

One famous art event is the Commonwheel Artists Annual Labor Day Art Festival. This premiere art festival is a juried show featuring artists from around the country displaying their work in various mediums, including painting, sculpture, jewelry, pottery, and photography.

In October, Manitou Springs hosts "Skeleton Craze." Local businesses design spooky and spectacular window displays that showcase the creative talent in this small town. It is a wonderful time to visit.

Luckily, you don't have to wait for a festival to see exceptional art in Manitou Springs. You can stroll the area every day of the year visiting galleries and admiring the numerous public art installations. New sculptures and murals are installed yearly as part of "Art on the Avenue," and visitors can learn more about the project here.

Between the galleries, outdoor installations, and natural beauty, there is artistic inspiration everywhere in Manitou Springs. It is a small town with tremendous charm, and it's worth a visit!

(Colorado) The first Colorado case of white-nose syndrome (WNS), a deadly bat disease, was recently confirmed in Otero County. Colorado Parks and Wildlife announced that an adult female Yuma bat found at Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site was unable to fly and had a "white powdery substance on its forearms."
