(Colorado Springs, CO) Colorado Springs has beautiful parks, fabulous museums, sunny weather, and a bear that never hibernates.

In the southwest part of the city, there is a large Zuni bear sculpture in the front yard of a residential home. The bear has been there for years and was initially a chalk-white bear that stood in stark contrast to the green and brown landscape.

Several years ago, the family who lives in the home began painting the bear to match the seasons - a bunny at Easter, a popsicle in the summer, a school bus in the fall, and "Santa Bear" in December.

Every month, the animal sculpture transforms into a colorful new creation, and the monthly themes are rarely repeated.

It likely takes hours to paint and accessorize the sculpture. Regardless of the temperature or weather conditions, the bear becomes a new creation every month, like clockwork.

I don't know who lives in the home. Perhaps an artist, but definitely a family who enjoys making others smile. It's hard to drive by a bear painted like a popsicle and not smile.

Colorado Springs has a vibrant art scene with fantastic art galleries, impressive outdoor art displays, and one colorful bear that never hibernates. Thank you to the homeowners for devoting their time and energy to a neighborhood gem that brings joy to all.
