Free Planetarium, E-bikes, and Comics Today in Colorado Springs (May 7th)

(Colorado Springs, CO) It is a busy weekend in Colorado Springs with plenty of indoor and outdoor fun. You can watch a show at the planetarium, go on a free electric bike ride, tour a historical site, entertain the family at a nature center, and enjoy the stars. There are activities for all ages, and a few are even free.

Reynolds Ranch Tour

In conjunction with Celebrate Colorado, the Western Museum of Mining & Industry will offer a discounted Reynolds Ranch tour on May 6th and 7th. This newly renovated historical site which includes a farmhouse, hay barn, ore house, and beautiful grounds has just recently opened for tours. Be one of the first Reynolds Ranch visitors this weekend!

There are tours on both days at 11:00 a.m. or 2:00 p.m. The cost is $3 per person (free for members), and tickets must be reserved in advance here.

Fountain Creek Family Fun Day

Fountain Creek Nature Center will host a Family Fun Day on Saturday, May 7th, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. There will be numerous activity and learning stations along the Nature Center trails including a puppet show, dinosaur fossils, kite making, crafts, pond critters, and more.

The stations will be manned by local organizations such as Rocky Mountain Dinosaur & Resource Center, 4H Petting Zoo, Cool Science, and Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

The cost is $5 per person (children under two are free) and this fee includes the activities and a slice of pizza. This event is free for active-duty military and their family members. Reservations are recommended and can be made here.

Air Force Academy Planetarium

The United States Air Force Academy Planetarium will have a free open house on Saturday, May 7th, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The renovated planetarium reopened in 2019, after being closed for fifteen years, and offers full-dome shows with immersive sound.

In addition to shows on Saturday, there will be food trucks and photo opportunities.

Location: 2120 Cadet Drive, United States Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs (use this map instead of entering the address into a GPS. The GPS directions will take you to the wrong location.)

Family Star Party

On Saturday, May 7th, from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., join the Space Foundation Discovery Center for a Family Star Party. Members of the Colorado Springs Astronomical Society will be outside the center with telescopes to help guests observe the Crescent Moon, Orion the Hunter, and Galaxies in Leo & Virgo. There is no fee for the outdoor events.

If you would like to explore the center's indoor activities and exhibits, there will be half-price admission (adults $5 and children $3) that evening. This museum is an educational, interactive facility that is fun for all ages.

The outdoor telescope viewing is weather dependent, so please call to confirm in the event of inclement weather.

Pike Ride Electric Bikes

Explore downtown, local trails, or nearby neighborhoods on an electric bike. Pike Ride will offer free 20-minute bike rides from May 6th through May 8th.
