(Colorado Springs, CO) Just slightly east of downtown Colorado Springs, on perhaps the shortest street in the city, sits a burger joint like no other - The Green Line Grill.

This eatery has been serving burgers and fries to the community for almost a decade, and it is a local favorite.

As you walk through the door, it feels like stepping back in time to a small 1950s diner with a lunch counter and black and white checkered floors. The kitchen is just big enough for three people, and it is a highly organized and efficient operation.

This place is popular, so there may be a line to order, but it is worth your time.

The menu includes:

  • The Original Onion Fried Burger
  • Deluxe Burger (with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles)
  • Mushroom Swiss Burger
  • Bacon Bleu Burger
  • Veggie Burger
  • The Special Burger (this varies by the day. When I visited this week, the special was Breaded Spam Cutlet)
  • Chicken Bacon Ranch Sandwich
  • Grilled Cheese
  • Coney Dog
  • Frito-Pie
  • Macaroni and Cheese

The Green Line Grill's "Onion Fried Burgers" are locally sourced beef patties, hand-pressed into a caramelized yellow onion creating a perfect blend of flavors. It is served on a Kaiser roll. Their french fries are hand-cut, lightly seasoned, and crisp.

I enjoyed the Bacon Blue Burger with a blue cheese sauce and thick-cut bacon. The sauce was complimentary, not overpowering.

There are limited indoor and outdoor seats but plenty of parking if you want to eat in the car during the snowy winter months. The Green Line Grill also appeared to have a robust take-out and delivery business.

On March 1st of this year, The Green Line Grill posted on their Facebook page a request for community support to ensure they could continue to operate in the months to come.

On March 4th and 5th, the business sold out of burgers before the end of the day, an impressive customer response.

Let's continue to support this Colorado Springs gem - a delicious and integral part of our community. Work for the common good while dipping french fries in ketchup.

I'll see you there!
