Admist the new year, it is finally time that we turn around that quarantine 15. We have pledged to eat cleaner foods, work out more, and support local restaurants. And shining through is a restaurant called Grain and Berry that will help us to hit all of those new years resolutions while simultaneously treating our taste buds to the best Acai in the Tampa Bay area.
This Tampa restaurant has exploded since opening their first restaurant in 2017. Grain and Berry currently have 13 restaurants and two more in the making!! So I promise, even if you don't want to listen to me, listen to their booming business! Grain and Berry prides themselves on offering fresh, plant-based products that make some of the most beautiful Acai bowls you will ever see. They are not only so incredibly yummy but quite aesthetically perfect for that Instagram brunch shot with your girl friends. I highly recommend coming here for a healthy breakfast option with your friends before work or on your lunch break. What's great however is that Grain and Berry is also quite family friendly. What kid doesn't love a beautiful bowl of fruit??
Nutrition wise, obviously as we all know, eating fruits and veggies are a necessary part of our diets. Unfortunately despite this well known fact, the vast part of the American population are not meeting the requirements for their daily vitamins and minerals. Grain and Berry offers an entire nutrition chart on their website that writes out all of the calories, macros and even amount of fiber and sugar in every single menu item. This can surely help you to reach your New Years Resolutions or simply just inform you! I love when you are able to look at a list of ingredients in your meal and know what every single one of them means. Their nutrition guide online also gives you a great insight on what the difference between empty calories and nutritious calories are to help you find the balance of healthy and delicious right in one of their locations. If you have the time, check it out on their website!
Now of course on to my favorite part of every article that I write!! The fooooood.
Grain and Berry has the wonderful build your own bowl option. You will first start by selecting your bowl base which could be acai, spirulina, pitaya, kale or yogurt. You will then top it with granola and up to three fruits. These options include banana, strawberry, mango, pineapple, even kiwi, blueberry and apple! The bowl doesn't end there because you can then finish it off with up to three toppings including nutella, peanut butter, honey, chia seeds, hemp seeds, coconut shavings, almond slices, crushed peanuts or even almond butter. It is the perfect place to bring a group of friends because since you literally customize the bowl to however you want so every one in your group will be happy.
If you are not sure what flavor combinations will taste great together, the Grain and Berry staff has got you covered. They have come up with a huge variety of bowls that are pieced together to create a bowl of perfection.
If you are on the run, you can order a smoothie instead of a bowl. These are such great ways to get some quick nutrients in simply through a straw!! Some of their smoothie options include:
- the vacation (mango, banana, pineapple and almond milk)
- magic dragon (organic pitaya, peach, pineapple, orange juice, almond milk and strawberries.
- purple rain: organic, acai, banana, strawberries, almond milk and pineapple
- strawberry fields: strawberry whey protein, bananas, strawberries and almond milk
- dreamsicle: spirulina, banana, pineapple, lime juice and coconut milk
Perhaps you want something a little more savory for lunch. Sometimes I just need something a little more protein dense to make me feel satisfied for the day! Grain and Berry serves these gorgeous flatbreads which you honestly can't go wrong with when you are eating pizza and still getting in plenty of nutrition and foods that are good for you. Their flavor profiles for the flatbreads on their menu are:
- Avo got the Crunch Flatbread: Marinara, Mozzarella, Feta Cheese, Baked Avocado Slices, Cherry Tomatoes, Arugula, Olive Oil, Sea Salt, and Pepper
- Go Fig or Go Home Flatbread: Fig spread, brie, apple, arugula, olive oil, sea salt, pepper, and balsamomic glaze
- Meat Your Heart out Flatbread: Marinara, mozzarella, plant based sausage, cherry tomatoes, and basil
You can substitute vegan mozzarella as your cheese too! I love that all of these options are vegan friendly. They have quesadillas in the same flavor combinations as the flatbreads well.
To go alongside one of these savory options, I highly recommend ordering one of their fresh juices which are full of fruits and veggies that provide a crazy amount of vitamins and minerals. They are so refreshing, especially during the heat of our summer floridas. Anytime I was on my way home from being out in the sun, I would crave one of these ice cold, freshly squeezed juices. Some of my favorites include:
- Turn the Beet Around: Beet, apple, sweet potato, lemon and carrot
- Hale to the Kale: Pineapple and kale
- Elvis Parsley: Kale, Parsley, cucumber, celery, sea salt, and lime
- 50 shades of green: cucumber, pineapple, apple, mint and lime
Now for my favorite menu items other than the acai bowls!! The avocado toast, the simple best breakfast that is so filling! You can order their avocado toast with roasted red pepper or a poached egg to keep it classic. Or make it a little bit more fancy by ordering their caprese deliciousness which is made with cherry tomatoes, mozzarella, basil, caprese herbs and balsamic glaze. No matter which avocado toast that you order, you will love it if you love avocado as much as I do. Avocados are full of the healthy fats that keep you satiated throughout the day so a couple slices of this in the morning will surely hold you over until you have time to grab lunch or dinner.
As I mentioned earlier, Grain and Berry is a great spot for the family. Especially to save time, cleanup, and find something that everyone in the family will enjoy. One of my favorite desserts as a kid was a banana split and Grain and Berry has a delicious, healthy twist on this with a yogurt banana splits. It is the easiest way to get all the fruit and nutrients for the day on your kids plate in a tricky but mouthwatering bite.
- Grain and Berry Split: Yogurt, Organic Granola, Banana, Strawberries, Blueberries, Nutella, Peanut Butter and Coconut Shavings
- Feed the Soul Split: yogurt, organic granola, banana, strawberries, pineapple, kiwi, honey and hemp seeds
