3 Columbus Foodie Spots You didn’t Know About

Collegeandchocolate

1. Auddino’s Italian Bakery

This family owned bakery is the ultimate local spot for all of your baked goods. Auddino’s was established in 1968 and is still thriving today. It is completely family run with multiple generations in the business now. The owner Mike Auddino still works everyday in the kitchen baking away for all of us to enjoy. They provide bread and bakery goods for several local Columbus restaurants as well as their own personal public store that anyone can come walk into! When you come inside you will see a little display case full of the most delicious sweets, a shelf full of warm fresh rolls, and plenty of other little items that you need to try.

There are very few if any spots in Columbus that sell a Cronut (Doughssant) but THEY HAVE THEM HERE!! A cronut is a cross between a croissant and a donut that results in an epic, flaky and buttery donut that just absolutely melts in your mouth. It is glazed so it has a nice crunch when you bite into it, and Auddino’s bakery definitely does them right. Similarly, they sell an apple fritter glazed as well that is humongous!! It is so soft on the inside but fried to perfection on the outside.

Auddino’s also sells a variety of classic Italian sweets such as cannolis, italian cookies, torones, cassata cakes and tiramisu!! Every single item on their menu is incredible, you cannot go wrong ordering a little bit of everything. The bakery also sells make your own pizza kits for an extremely cost effective bundle. Each set comes with two crusts, a jar of sauce, and cheese. Bring it home and add any additional toppings that you love and bake it for a few minutes then enjoy!! This is one of the best ways to have fun with your family and have some delicious food at the end of it. So stop in and say hi to Mike, get yourself a cronut, a cake and a pizza.

2. Carlucci’s Pizza

Carlucci’s Pizza has been around for 15 years now in Columbus and is still coming up with some of the best pizza and stromboli in the Northern areas. They now have two locations in Powell and in Dublin. They prepare everythin in house with the best ingredients and you can tell with every single pizza pie. They bake everything in a 600 degree stone oven.

One of the unique things that I love about Carlucci’s pizzeria is that they bake the stromboli without sauce and serve the red sauce on the side as the dipping sauce (they give you a huge bowl of it). This is so perfect for the entire family to enjoy as you are able to control the amount of sauce you eat with your stromboli and the crust stays crisp and not soggy. The House stromboli itself is full of Capicola Ham, Pepperoni, Sausage, Onion and lots of cheese (which helps create the ultimate cheese pull). It’s rolled within the pizza dough and baked. It’s then sliced to share with the entire family.

A little secret menu item you should definitely order are the pepperoni chips. Have you ever gotten a slice of pepperoni pizza and purposefully eaten the little pepperoni pieces that have been extra toasted and crispy? Carlucci’s sells an entire container of them for people like you and they are incredible. For those who are not the biggest fan of pizza, carlucci’s still has you covered. They also sell italian subs, wings, and pasta. Their italian sub is stuffed full of Capicola Ham, Salami, Pepperoni, Provolone Cheese, Topped with Lettuce, Tomato, Onions and Banana Peppers (Italian dressing included). For pasta they have spaghetti and meatballs, chicken parmesan and my favorite homemade lasagna. So next time you need to order in some pizza, italian food or a little bit of everythign head over to Carlucci’s!! It is not only the perfect spot to get dinner for the family, but also for Monday Night football, parties or movie nights.

3. Super Chef’s

I found this little spot on a search for a really good brunch spot after my flight back to Columbus. Located in Gahanna, this restaurant is sure to please you with its atmosphere and good food. The entire restaurant is decorated with super hero While it is known for its unique and insane breakfast combinations, Super Chef’s offers an expanded menu for every meal of the day. Their goal is to bring new flavors and new concepts to the Columbus area and they continuously seem to surprise us. This restaurant was originally opened in Kentucky by two childhood friends (one is the owner and the other runs the kitchen). The Chef was actually one of the Chef’s for the 2008 Team USA Beijing team where he got his nickname “the super chef”.

Super Chefs also has some of the most instagram friendly food in the 614. Their SuperPancakes are SO fluffy and stacked to the heavens and then on top of that layered with the most amazing toppings. Some of their pancake combinations include

  • Red Velvet Pancakes: Layered W/ A Cream Cheese Whipped Topping
  • Pineapple Upside Down Pancakes: Layered W/ Pineapple Rings & A Pineapple Compote
  • Pecan Pancakes: Stuffed W/ Glazed Pecans Topped W/ Whipped Topping & A Butter Pecan Sauce. These are my personal favorite. They are even topped with little cheesecake pieces and candied pecans and they are absolutely delicious.

Similarly their SuperWaffles combinations are just as astonishing. Some of the most unique combos include

  • Wings & Waffles
6 Maple Heat Wings On Top Of A Waffle Drizzled W/ Maple Syrup & Powdered Sugar & Strawberry Garnish
  • The "Juggernaut"
2 (Red) Waffle Sandwiches W/ Fried Chicken, Candied Bacon, Over Medium Eggs, American & Pepperjack Cheese Topped W/ Honey Drizzle & Maple Syrup
  • Cinnamon Toast Crunch
Cinnamon Sugar waffles W/ A caramel syrup dusted with cinnamon toast crunch flakes
  • Elvis
Diced Candided Bacon Sprinkled Inside The Waffles Layered W/ Peanut Butter & Bananas W/ A Chocolate & Caramel Syrup

If you're there later in the day or in the mood for something a little more savory, Super Chefs does have an expanded menu for the entire day that includes salads, burgers, platters, quesadillas and a bunch of other items. But do not worry, all of these combinations are still so so unique and delicious.
