According to Restaurant Guru, Ixtapa Fine Mexican Cuisine ranks #10 out of 233 Mexican Restaurants in Kansas City. I have not had everything on the menu, and not because I'm not a fan of cheese. I go for the melt-in-your-mouth tamales. They are the best I've ever had. I also like authentic Mexican tacos because they aren't made with cheese.

For years, I believed the best tamales were the ones served at a food truck in some strip mall. They're so good too because they're authentic and freshly made. The last time I had tamales at Ixtapa, they were so fresh, tender, flavorful, and not dry at all. Ixtapa's menu describes their tamales, two cornmeal dumplings rolled & filled with pork & served with green sauce. If you don't like green tomatillo sauce, you can request the red sauce if that's your preference.

One Yelp reviewer said, "The tamale was packed full of meat. The ground beef tacos!!! Let's talk about their ground beef tacos. They are juicy and flavorful and jam packed with seasoning." (Source.) Another reviewer said, "Don't let the unassuming strip mall placement fool you!" Overall, Yelp indicates it's a 4.5-star restaurant. Likewise, with Tripadvisor.

Ixtapa's menu is broken up into starters, soups and salad, vegetarian, Tex-Mex combos and burritos, chiles rellenos, seafood, tacos, beef entrées, pork entrées, chicken entrées, Molcajete, and of course, side orders.

The last time I visited Ixtapa, I went at noon on a Saturday, and it wasn't too long after that when the place was filling up which is always a good sign.
