From its rich history to its natural wonders, here are some intriguing facts about Missouri that might just leave you amazed. Of course, you might already know some of them if you're native to this state.

Gateway to the West

Missouri holds a significant place in American history as it served as the gateway for westward expansion during the 19th century. The iconic Gateway Arch in St. Louis stands tall as a symbol of this historical significance.

Birthplace of author, Mark Twain

Missouri is proud to claim one of America's most celebrated authors, Mark Twain, as its native son. Samuel Clemens, better known by his pen name, Mark Twain, was born in Florida, Missouri, and went on to create timeless literary works such as The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

Cave State

With more than 6,000 recorded caves throughout the state, Missouri is often referred to as the Cave State. One of the most famous caves is Meramec Caverns which was allegedly used by outlaws like Jesse James as a hideout. This cave is located in Franklin County.
