Gypsy Rose Blanchard made national headlines when she, alongside her then boyfriend, Nick Godejohn, murdered her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard on June 14, 2015. Gypsy hid in the bathroom while Nick stabbed her mother, fleeing the house to Wisconsin with $4,000 in cash.
At first, her loved ones and neighbors worried Gypsy was in danger because they thought she couldn't walk and had cancer. Gypsy didn't even know until her arrest that she didn't have the long list of illnesses. She knew she could walk, but according to her, she only recently figured that out. She wasn't sure how to leave her house, so the answer she came up with was murder. In hindsight, Gypsy probably would have explored other ways to escape her mother and the abuse.
The Judge Sentenced Gypsy To 10 Years
As part of a plea deal, Gypsy plead guilty and received a 10-year sentence. She will be eligible for release as early as December 2023. Godejohn received the sentence of life with no parole. He has had no contact with Blanchard since their arrest.
With her parole hearing approaching, Fancy Marcelli and Titania Gisclair spoke with In Touch Weekly about their concerns for Gypsy. They claim they were "worried" Gypsy would end up back in prison because she allegedly refused to take part in counseling services and heal from the horrible abuse she suffered growing up.
With the power of social media, it came to light that Fancy and Titania are no longer friends of Gypsy's. Even worse than that, it appears much of what they told In Touch Weekly was not true.
Gypsy Is Working Hard To Improve Herself
Blanchard's best friend, who wishes to remain anonymous, said none of that is true. She said Gypsy earned her GED and was getting ready to start college classes. Blanchard is currently in therapy to process the abuse she suffered as a child.
She wants to be an advocate for others going through the same thing she did. Gypsy doesn't want anyone to feel like their only option is murder.
Fancy and Titania claimed Gypsy was an easy target for men wanting some level of fame by being with her. But her best friend pointed out, the only ones getting continued fame by talking about Gypsy are Fancy and Titania.
Fancy and Titania announced they created a new wine label, The Gypsy. They never asked Gypsy if they could use her name. They will probably hear from Blanchard's lawyers about using her name without permission.
Gypsy has a boyfriend right now, and they are happy together. He is a schoolteacher and encourages Blanchard to be the best version of herself. It sounds like Gypsy is making great stride to change her life for the better.
