I was driving through Schaumburg with my wife. I wanted to try something different and new. I had heard of this restaurant many months ago but had not ever had time to go till now.
The name of this restaurant is Fat Rosie's in Schaumburg.
When you drive up the outside looks almost carnivalesque. There are bright circus colors throughout the exterior. I also could hear Mexican music playing over speakers. I went on a Saturday and it was absolutely jampacked.
I almost was going to drive away due to the fact that I am not one for large crowds. I walked in and it looked like a massive amount of people were all over the restaurant. I immediately sat at my table with my wife.
Our Latina server was extremely friendly and walked up to our table. I did not order any appetizers. I enjoyed the free tortilla chips and salsa. The Tortilla chips had a slight all-the-oil taste to them but they were still very tasty.
I put in an order for their Birria Tacos and my wife ordered a burrito. I also ordered their Elote corn appetizer. As I waited for my food I was people-watching. The theme of this restaurant is what I would call a Mexican-Style Chili’s restaurant.
The food I feel is more authentic than typical chain restaurants like Chilies or a T.G.I. Fridays Restaurant. There were multiple birthdays being celebrated. Many other patrons were given a sombrero while servers sang happy birthday.
I would say it was a madhouse inside but, our server really did a good job of giving us good service. My main entrées arrived. The Birria Tacos were absolutely delicious with the consommé. There were three tiny tacos that were my only complaint about the portion size.
My wife really enjoyed her burrito and said it was very tasty. The Mexican rice that came with the dish lacked some flavor.
I also ordered their churros and they were absolutely fantastic. I would say definitely order those if you are visiting here.
The bill came close to $80 for only two small Entrees and Churros. I felt it was quite expensive for what we got.
I may come back because I thought the food quality was very good, but just small portions.
I rate Fat Rosies a 6 out of 10.
