Eight members of a family were found dead from gunshots in a home in Enoch, Utah where they resided. They include the suspected perpetrator, 42-year-old man, Michael Haight. The others were his wife Tausha Haight, 40, his mother-in-law, Gail Earl, 78, and his five children who attended schools in the area, ranged in age from 17 to 4. The shooting happened two weeks after Tausha filed for divorce from her husband. The incident shocked people in Enoch which is located about midway between Salt Lake City and Las Vegas. According to the city manager Rob Dotson, the family were actively involved with church and the community that they were well-known. The unexpected tragic event is considered a big loss.
According to Enoch Police Chief Jackson Ames during a press conference later that day, officers were involved in investigations involving the patriarch and his family "couple of years prior". The chief however did not go into the details. Officials were convinced that Michael Haight killed his wife, their five children and his mother-in-law before killing himself. This is apparently based on the fact that court records show that the wife filed for divorce from her husband on December 21. According to her lawyer, Michael had been served with the divorce papers six days later.
According to Mayor Geoffrey Chesnut, Tausha Haight was seen with other family members during a church activity for young women, the night before the killings. A welfare check was performed after she reportedly missed an appointment.
Investigators claimed they found evidence that suggest that Michael took his own life having killed the others, with "no suspects outstanding". Sources: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/enoch-utah-eight-family-members-five-kids-shot-dead-at-home/
That was the last thing that anyone from that area would ever expect to happen to such a family because that was a famous family which the others were so fond of. It was so unfortunate that such a thing happened. Let me remind you, this man and the stats don't make men worse than women or opposite-sex couples worse than same-sex couples. It goes either way. It happens in any kind of family no matter the walk of life. I don't know if the shooting had anything to do with the divorce, an argument or something else. However, whatever the reason, so far as it didn't justify the killing, the man should not have killed his wife or himself. He also took it on his mother-in-law and his children who had nothing to do with it. I say this to you all, both men and women, if you have an issue with your significant other or ex and you are getting pushed over the edge, remember that murder is not the answer, neither is suicide. If you are in a situation like this or any other crisis or you know someone that is in that position, contact the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline for a counselor. A broken relationship is not the end of the world. What do you think about the incident?
