Senior citizen dies in freak accident
NBC San Diego is reporting that an 83-year-old Salem, South Carolina woman has died in a freak accident. Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis said he had never seen such an accident in his 31 years of working his job.
The woman was helping her daughter to pack and move out when the floorboards gave out and she fell through. Her daughter looked for her in the crawl space of the home but could not find her.
Records indicated the house, built in 1920, had a 50-foot well shaft underneath that the owner was not aware of. It took rescuers 4 hours to find and retrieve the woman's body and Addis ruled her death an accident stating she died from her injuries from the fall. NBC affiliate WYFF identified the deceased as Dorothy Louise Downey.
