Home Alone is the top Virginia Christmas film

In 2020 iHeart Radio in the Roanoke/ Lynchburg area did a survey that revealed that Home Alone was the favorite Christmas movie in the Commonwealth. Comparitech has compiled a list of the favorite holiday films in all 50 states based on IMDb and Home Alone is #1 in more locations than any other holiday film.

Although it was not emphasized Home Alone was the #1 Christmas movie in 8 US states including Virginia. The other 7 are Florida, Illinois, Iowa, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, and Texas.

Reasons, why the film remains popular, will vary

Vox lists reasons for why Home Alone remains so popular and they mostly have to do with those working behind the camera. If you were to ask Virginians why they watch this holiday film you might get varied answers. The action, drama, humor, fast pace, the villains, McCauley Caulkin, the streets of New York, etc.

My favorite part of the film is that in the midst of little Kevin's adventures, and being left home, alone, he knows to go to the church and reflect upon the reason for the season as the choir sings Somewhere in My Memory and O Holy Night. Some have said that Home Alone is not a Christmas movie but Virginians believe otherwise.
