Dress down will not apply to the senate
Americans used to have a dress-for-success attitude but have been in dress-down mode specifically since the pandemic. In office buildings and churches across the Commonwealth and beyond it has become normal to see professionals wearing casual attire but this does not translate to our elected officials.
Jim Croche once sang: "You don't tug Superman's cape-you don't spit in the wind-you don't pull the mask off the old Lone Ranger and you don't mess around with Jim". Obviously, you don't mess with the formal dress code of US Senators either as WRIC is revealing to Virginians that on Wednesday they voted to continue dressing for success on the Senate floor.
The vote was unanimous which indicates that both Virginia Senators Democrat Tim Kane and Republican Mark Warner were in agreement. Senator Chuck Schumer's decision to relax the dress code was met with opposition. Some elected officials even said it was disrespectful to the upper chamber.
