Black bear pays Virginia woman a late-night visit
A "bumbling bear" did a lot of damage to a Virginia home in Amelia County in the middle of the night. The homeowner Destiny Layman heard loud banging noises and thought it was a burger. She had seen deer and rabbits but was surprised to find a big black bear was destroying her property. Sh called local authorities who saw the bear run off as they approached.
At around 2 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 17, the bear scratched on windows, banged on doors and ripped lights, shingles and siding off of her house. Layman said the beast even left dents on her car and ripped the windshield wipers off.
The bear changed the position of Layman's video camera by pulling it down and banged on the side of the home as well as on the front, and back doors. Bear sightings across the Commonwealth have been increasing. Residents are encouraged to not make contact, don't feed the animals, and to keep trash out of the yard and the lids closed on trash cans to deter them.
