The Internet strikes again
In Virginia, 55% of households are pet parents, and 23.9 percent of those are cat owners. If you have a furry feline you should be aware of two issues that might affect your kitty. The Internet strikes again as there is a shortage of Clorox brand cat litter and there is also a dangerous TikTok trend involving cats.
Please don't traumatize your cat by shaking him or her
TikTok users are filming themselves swinging their cats around to Taylor Swift's son "August" which professionals say can be traumatizing to the felines. There have been no reports of Virginians partaking in this trend but that does not mean that someone in the Commonwealth has not tried it.
“At no point should an animal deliberately be put in a position to feel fear, anxiety, frustration or experience pain for the benefit of human entertainment,” Daniel Warren-Cummings, a behavior officer at a UK-based cat charity, told Metro.
Kitty Litter shortage
You may have noticed in Virginia grocery stores that cat litter has not always been in stock since COVID-19. This was due to shortages of employees and truck drivers as well as stockers working in the stores. There is now a shortage of the Clorox Brand kitty litters, Fresh Step, Ever Clear, and Scoop Away due to a a cybersecurity attack.
Veterinarians suggest that you don't change your cat's brand of litter because they may not like it and poop somewhere else in the home. They recommend that if you have to switch brands you mix a little of the new with the old so your cat or kittens will become used to it and use it.
