RAM House needs you
Roanoke Area Ministries also known as the RAM House is offering a challenge to the Roanoke Valley to assist them in offering help to the most vulnerable in the area. RAM is in need of a new building due to an increase in homelessness in the area and the current building at 824 Campbell Ave SW is no longer able to fill the growing needs of the agency. RAM serves breakfast to the homeless and lunch to anyone who is in need and they are open 365 days each year. They feed an average of 200 people a day just for lunch and have helped about 2,000 individuals with over $300,000 in financial assistance that prevents them from being homeless.
Melissa Woodson the executive director of the RAM House told WDBJ7 that there has been an increase in the homeless who have substance use and or mental health issues. A larger building will help meet these needs and the organization has a donor who will help financially. What they do not have is a building and they need to be within a mile of downtown Roanoke because of other local services that help the homeless. Woodson says she believes that by sharing the need with WDBJ7 Roanokers will spread the word and someone will find the proper location.
She said they need about a 13,000-square-foot building but could make do with 10,000. You can go to their website and leave ideas about possible solutions or give them a call. that will assist the Roanoke Area Ministries in obtaining a building that will meet their needs. The RAM House is the oldest shelter in the Roanoke Valley and has been in operation since 1971. Roanoke are you up to the challenge?
