The bear continues to frequent Northwest Roanoke
They say truth is stranger than fiction and indeed it is. Last week on May 24, a bear was reported at Round Hill School off Oakland Blvd. and Greehurst NW and the school went on lockdown. The animal began moving south and was later filmed in the backyard of a man on 10th Street NW near the bridge. The bear decided to go to school that day and today he chose to go to church. Earlier around noon the bear had moved further west and was spotted at Central Baptist Church at 1502 Staunton Ave NW Roanoke. I was told someone placed a video on Facebook but have not seen it myself.
Take precautions if you encounter the bear
The bear can be seen in the above image running after stealing food. You can click the link and watch the video. He appears to be midsized, not a cub but also not fully grown, and has been said to move along quickly. This is why each time authorities have been notified the bear has changed location and they have not been able to apprehend it.
If you are in the vicinity of Northwest Roanoke from Round Hill and Oakland to the Stauton and Orange Ave, area please be cautious. If you encounter this animal there are 3 things WFXR says the City of Roanoke is recommending. Keep your distance, do not approach it, and do not run. Keep trash in cans with lids and do not feed this animal.
