Celine Dion medical crisis
Celine Dion has revealed that she is canceling future performances for 2023 because she has been diagnosed with stiff person syndrome which affects her muscles. The singer has called off her North American tour because she is dealing with "severe and persistent muscle spasms." The remaining dates for the European tour will be rescheduled for 2024.
The singer announced her Courage World Tour 3 years after the death of her husband and said it was time for a change. The North American tour was postponed due to Coivd and Dion who was getting treatment for her medical issues said she had hoped to be up and running by now. Fans will be disappointed but will be hoping Dion recovers from the debilitating condition.
According to Johns Hopkins Hospital, stiff person syndrome is rare and affects only one or two persons in a million. The medical facility also reveals that illness can leave patients and families with more questions than answers. SPS is described as a "progressive muscle stiffness and painful spasms" that are triggered by environmental factors such as "sudden movement, cold temperature or unexpected loud noises,"
In an Instagram video, Celine Dion expressed her sorrow that she is not able to go on tour and said that she misses her fans. She also wrote the following post. "I’ve been dealing with problems with my health for a long time, and it’s been really difficult for me to face these challenges and to talk about everything that I’ve been going through…It hurts me to tell you that I won’t be ready to restart my tour in Europe in February.” - Céline
