The NBC sitcom A Different World ran for six seasons from 1987 to 1993. This Saturday, September 24 TV One will air a marathon of the series beginning at 6:00 a.m. to celebrate the 35th anniversary.

During its six-year run, there were some things going on romantically with the cast that was not hidden but just not emphasized to the viewing audience. Everything is now on the Internet but during the time the sitcom was on the air the fans had no way of knowing all the details.

Married life

In season two the theme song for A Different World was sung by Aretha Franklin whose husband Glen Turman began portraying Colonel Bradford Taylor that year. Charnelle Brown who played Kim Reese was born Charnelle Dozier and married Eric Brown in 1987 so she was a married woman prior to her scenes airing, It has been reported that the couple met on the set so perhaps they saw each other during auditions as there is no record of Eric portraying a character on the show.

Art imitating life

Jasmine Guy and Dominic Hoffman who played Whitley Gilbert and Julain Day were dating both on and off-screen. Cree Summer (Freddie Brooks) and Kadeem Hardison (Dwayne Wayne) were dating while Dwayne was in love with Wiley and snuck a kiss in the first episode of season 3. Darrell Bell (Ron Johnson) began dating Tempest Bledsoe who portrayed Vanessa Huxtable on the Cosby Show after she made an appearance on A Different World.
