A second fire in Vinton in six weeks
Roanoke County fire and rescue sqauds responded to an early morning fire at a Vinton apartment according to WFXR News. First responders on the scene from the Roanoke County Fire and Rescue Department said the crews responded at 4:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 18 to the 100 block of Pine Street for a report of a "commercial structure fire in an apartment building".
First responders on the scene found smoke coming from the second-floor window of a two-story apartment building. Officials said that at the time of the fire there were three adults inside the apartment and the blaze was under control in 15 minutes. The displaced occupants are safe and the American Red Cross is assisting them. Officials told WFXR News that there have been no reports of injuries or any damage to the other apartments in the complex.
July fire causes massive damage and loss
This is the second major fire in the downtown Vinton area this summer. On July 2nd there was a fire on Pollard Street and E. Lee Avenue in Vinton that displaced 8 individuals. The Dogwood Restaurant is now fully back open and running but the owners estimate they lost more than $6,000 after being closed for three days. Another business, however, lost everything.
The massive fire destroyed apartments and businesses and DR Music was a total loss with $100,000 in music equipment that was destroyed. There was no loss of human life but at least three cats were reported to have died. There was one apartment that was affected and the residents were being assisted by the Red Cross. There have been no reports at this time regarding the cause of either fire.
