Open Newbury is back this year and it's bigger than ever. Whether you enjoy five-star dining or shopping, there's something for everyone. It's become a summer staple for Bostonians.

What is Open Newbury?

Open Newbury takes place every year on Newbury Street, which is a mile-long block that runs along Berkeley Street to Massachusetts Avenue. It's home to many local businesses, such as restaurants, shops, art galleries, pubs, and lounges.

One weekend out of the year, it closes down for pedestrians to walk along the mile and enjoy all that Newbury Street has to offer. Open Newbury Street runs from July 2, 2023, through October 15, 2023, for 16 consecutive weekends.

It's the biggest event since its return in 2022 after it rolled back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The City of Boston previously held this program from a single Sunday to three to six Sundays.

Also, it's not just happening on Newbury Street. Allston-Brighton and East Boston are joining in on the fun as well by hosting their own Open Streets to pedestrians.

The festivities and fun differ by each neighborhood. Still, you can find local music, entertainment, music, kid-friendly activities, pop-up shops, and more. It's a great way to enjoy the summer weather and get to know the locals.

Here are three things you can do at Open Newbury.

3 Things To Do At Open Newbury

Thrift Shop At Covet Boston

One of the best things to do at Open Newbury is to shop. If anything, consider supporting local consignment shops like Covet Boston, which offer luxury fashions and accessories. You'll save more than you would at a high-end retailer. Plus, you'll walk away with something unique that you wouldn't when shopping at the mall.

Grab A Cocktail At Pinky's

Newbury Street isn't typically known for its vibrant nightlife. Thankfully, that's all changed thanks to Pinky's, a cocktail bar that's opened late at night. The bar has classic drinks like the Aperol spritz and modern takes such as The World is Ya Oyster. The romantic atmosphere is also ideal for a date night or night on the town with your girlfriends.

Hit Up La Neta For Tacos

La Neta is the hot spot on Newbury Street for tacos. They also have burritos if you don't feel like crunching. Other fixtures include chorizo, carne asada, tortilla soup, and corn on the cob. You'll walk away so full and satisfied that you'll want to walk the entire mile of Newbury Street.
