St Andrews By the Sea: The Quintessential Canadian Maritime Holiday (2019 Travel Guide)

Serving as a popular summer retreat for more than a century, St Andrews By-The-Sea in New Brunswick on Canada's eastern coast is one of those timeless seaside towns that, after visiting, makes you want to return each year as well. Sitting on the Bay of Fundy, an area famous for having some of the highest tides in the world – they can reach up to 30-feet. To make the trip tops, stay where the history is at the Algonquin Resort (part of Marriot's Autograph Collection and the first resort in Canada), a Tudor-style castle with a red slate roof and timber façade that sits on a hill overlooking the Bay of Fundy. One of the star amenities is the 18-hole golf course with Passamaquoddy Bay views. When it comes to dining on property, try Braxton's (named for a former chef at the resort that was the first African-American chef in Canada) for the short rib poutine served on gnocchi or the Verdana for Breakfast where the salmon lox bagel became my go-to each morning. My passion for travel was unlocked when I spent some years living across Europe and South America. I've never been one to shy away from a new adventure, be it swimming with pigs in the Bahamas, bird watching in the Galapagos or Heli-Hiking in British Columbia. And while I used to mostly travel solo, I now like to hit the road with my 4-year-old son, 1-year-old-daughter and husband in tow. The best part of travel to me now is getting to see the world through their eyes. Whether they are petting goats during an Oregon farm stay or making their very own pizza in Idaho, their enthusiasm and joy never fails to remind me of why I love travel.
