Dillon, Colorado: A Family-Friendly Vacation (Don’t Miss The Ice Castles)

Dillon, just 15 minutes from Breckenridge, is a top spot in Colorado for a family-friendly vacation. One of Dillon's top winter attractions is the Ice Castles. The castles are excellent for tots as there are plenty of hands-on exploring options like climbing through the ice-carved tunnels and sliding down the ice slide. Traveling with kids can be expensive, so I'm always looking for fun experiences that are also free at spots like the Dillon Nature Preserve for sledding and hiking at Sapphire Point. For dining, we chose some kid-friendly places like Pug Ryan's Brewery, White Boots, and Arapahoe Café. For lodging, we enjoyed our stay at the Hampton Inn Silverthorne, which had comfortable and modern rooms where we could wind down after an activity-filled day and wake up in a central spot.

My passion for travel was unlocked when I spent some years living across Europe and South America. I've never been one to shy away from a new adventure, be it swimming with pigs in the Bahamas, bird watching in the Galapagos or Heli-Hiking in British Columbia. And while I used to mostly travel solo, I now like to hit the road with my 4-year-old son, 1-year-old-daughter and husband in tow. The best part of travel to me now is getting to see the world through their eyes. Whether they are petting goats during an Oregon farm stay or making their very own pizza in Idaho, their enthusiasm and joy never fails to remind me of why I love travel.
