Katy Herbert Kotlarczyk has been announced as the vice chancellor for advancement

Today the CU Boulder Chancellor Phillip DiStefano named the new vice chancellor for advancement, Katy Herbert Kotlarczyk, that will begin her role on August 23rd.

Phillip stated, "I am thrilled to have Katy join us at CU Boulder in this top fundraising role, especially now as we begin to move beyond the pandemic and look forward to meeting new goals for investing in our students and faculty and in our teaching and research mission. Katy brings an incredible amount of experience as a leader in higher education fundraising, and her ability to develop a strong team of advancement and alumni professionals as well as other philanthropists is outstanding.”

Katy currently works at the University of Colorado system as assistant vice president for central advancement. She partners closely with the campus-based CU Advancement teams, the CU Foundation, and the Office of the President. She started her CU career with the CU Boulder Advancement team in 2010 and has been with CU advancement for 11 years.

Katy has a bachelor's degree in American studies from Standford University, a master's degree in sociology from Standford, and a master's in business administration from DePaul University. She is currently pursuing a doctor of education degree in leadership in educational equity with a focus on higher education.

Katy says that "CU Boulder is one of this country’s strongest public higher education institutions, serving not only the state of Colorado but also the broader global community. I am honored to lead this talented advancement team to partner with philanthropists and other constituents who believe in CU Boulder’s mission and are dedicated to making the world a better place.”

There was a national search for the position that ended with four finalists. The chancellor recognized the outstanding qualities and achievements of all the finalists and also thanked Derek Bellin who is the interim vice chancellor for advancement and the entire CU Boulder Advancement team for their hard work and continued commitment to making this transition in leadership smooth and successful.
