Last Wednesday, on June 2nd, a Denver firefighter was arrested on suspicion of sexual exploitation of a child.
The firefighter was identified as 39-year-old Eric Trujillo and according to the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office, the specific reason he was arrested was that he was possibly uploading videos to the internet depicting children who were being sexually assaulted. It was a cyber tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force to the sheriff's office that led to Eric's arrest and charging him with a class 3 felony.
As of this morning, only a week later on June 9th, it has been reported by the Douglas County Coroner's Office that Eric has passed.
It was yesterday which was Tuesday, June 8th, when Eric's official death was actually reported by the coroner's office. As of now, an autopsy has been done but the results and final ruling on the cause and manner of death have not yet been released to the public.
One important piece of this to note is that Eric was released from the Arapahoe County Jail over the weekend after posting a $50,000 bond so it is speculated that something could have happened during that time and him returning to jail.
Because he is no longer alive the two counts of sexual exploitation of children involving videos have been dropped.
Eric's death is still being investigated by the Douglas County Coroner’s Office and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
The Denver Fire Department has extended condolences to the family and friends of Eric Trujillo.
