As of this morning, the news broke that an inmate has escaped the Colorado Plains Medical Center In Fort Morgan and has not been found.
Chaz Contreas is a twenty-nine-year-old who has been missing since Thursday evening. Chaz is described as being a Hispanic male, who has brown hair and brown eyes and is around 5'3 or 5'4.
When asked how he escaped the Morgan County Sheriff's Office said that it was due to an internal failure to follow proper procedure and that there was no force used in the escape. The sheriff's office also said that inmate escapes are rare and that Chaz has extended family in the area.
Chaz was in jail on charges of second-degree burglary, vehicular eluding, possession of burglary tools, criminal mischief, theft, leaving the scene of an accident, and driving under suspension
According to several reports, there is going to be an internal investigation around agency policy violations, and that any disciplinary action will be a personnel matter.
As of now, several different agencies are helping in the efforts to locate Chaz Contreras. A warrant has also been issued for his escape and parole violation.
